Terms of business
Last updated 18 October 2026
These terms apply when you hire Birchwork Studios (Reece Birch, sole trader, Sandbach, Cheshire, UK) to build or look after a website. Before any work starts you'll also get a one-page agreement setting out your project's scope, price and timeline. If the two ever differ, the signed agreement wins.
Quotes and scope
- Prices on this site are guides. Your price is fixed in writing before work starts.
- The agreement lists the pages and features included. Anything new is quoted separately before I do it.
- The free homepage preview carries no obligation. If you don't go ahead, you owe nothing and the preview is taken down.
Payment
- Builds are paid 50% up front and 50% before the site goes live.
- Extra work outside your plan is charged at £35 / $45 per hour, agreed before it starts.
- Invoices are due within 14 days. If a care plan payment is more than 30 days overdue, the site may be taken offline until it's paid.
Your content
- You supply text, photos and logos within 14 days of the deposit, or the timeline moves back to match.
- You confirm you have the right to use everything you send me.
Revisions
Two rounds of changes on the design before build, and one round after. More rounds are charged hourly.
Care plans
- Every site needs a care plan, which covers hosting, SSL, domain renewal, backups, uptime checks and the monthly edit allowance for your plan.
- Care plans run for a 12-month minimum, then roll month to month. After the first 12 months you can cancel with 30 days' notice.
- Unused edit time doesn't roll over.
Ownership
- Your domain is registered in your name. Your words, photos and logo are always yours.
- The site's code stays with Birchwork Studios while you're on a care plan. If you leave, you can buy a full copy of your site for a one-off £150 / $199.
- I may show your site in my portfolio unless you ask me not to.
Liability
I'll build and look after your site with reasonable skill and care. I'm not responsible for losses caused by third-party services (such as hosting providers or payment processors) going down, or for content you supply. My total liability for any project is limited to the amount you've paid for it. Nothing here limits your statutory rights.
Cancelling
If you're a consumer rather than a business, you have 14 days to cancel after signing, under UK consumer law. If you ask me to start within those 14 days, you'll pay for work already done. Businesses can cancel a build at any time; the deposit covers work up to that point.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, wherever you're based.
